About this timeline

Tamil Nadu Timeline brings together 1041 events from the modern history of Tamil Nadu, from 1800 to today, so that they can be read in order, compared across eras, and explored by topic, place and person.

How it was made

The events were researched and drafted with the help of an AI assistant (Claude, made by Anthropic), working from published sources, mainly English Wikipedia articles together with newspapers such as The Hindu and Frontline, government pages and other reference works. Each event is written as a short, neutral summary in the site's own words and lists the sources it was based on.

How sources are checked

Every source link was opened automatically in a real browser. A source is marked as checked when the page loaded and contained the event's key terms, such as the year and the main names. At the last check, 1294of 1294 source links passed. This check confirms that the source exists and is about the event; it does not prove every sentence, so the sources themselves remain the authority.

Where sources disagree on a date, the event uses only as much precision as the sources support, and the description says so when the difference matters.

Images and maps

Images come from Wikimedia Commons under free licences; the author and licence are shown with each image. Places are mapped with coordinates from Wikipedia and shown on OpenStreetMap.

Visit log

The site keeps a log of visits: the IP address, browser details and approximate location that every browser sends with a page request. It is used only to understand who reads the site, is kept for one year, and is not shared.
