India's Prime Minister skips CHOGM in Colombo after Tamil Nadu pressure

· Colombo

After a unanimous Tamil Nadu Assembly resolution, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh stayed away from the Commonwealth summit in Colombo.

The 2013 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting was held in Colombo from 15 to 17 November 2013 amid allegations of war crimes against Tamil civilians in the last phase of the Sri Lankan civil war. In October 2013 the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly unanimously passed a resolution asking the Indian government to boycott the meeting and seeking Sri Lanka's temporary suspension from the Commonwealth. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced that he would not attend, and External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid represented India. The leaders of Canada and Mauritius also stayed away.
