Ayyavazhi tradition records that Ayya Vaikundar's earthly mission ended on 2 June 1851.

Ayya Vaikundar began his mission in 1833 in South Travancore, in present-day Kanyakumari district. The Ayyavazhi scripture, the Akilathirattu, is traditionally said to have been dictated in 1841. Tradition records that his incarnation lasted eighteen years and ninety-one days and ended on 2 June 1851. The centre of the faith is at Swamithope.
