EPRLF leader K. Pathmanabha killed in Madras

· Kodambakkam

EPRLF leader K. Pathmanabha and others were shot dead by gunmen in a Kodambakkam flat in Madras, in killings attributed to the LTTE.

The Eelam People's Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF), a Sri Lankan Tamil militant group regarded as friendly to India, was founded and led by K. Pathmanabha, who had settled in Kodambakkam, Madras, in 1981. During an EPRLF meeting on the evening of 19 June 1990, armed men forced their way into a flat in Zachria Colony, Kodambakkam, and started shooting. Pathmanabha died along with seven others in the room, among them G. Yogasangari, a Member of Parliament, and P. Kirubakaran, a provincial minister; five EPRLF members outside were killed too. Responsibility was laid on the rival LTTE, and the attack heightened worries about Sri Lankan militant violence in Tamil Nadu.
