Chennai-born grandmaster Viswanathan Anand won the World Chess Championship tournament in Mexico City without losing a game.

The World Chess Championship 2007 was held as an eight-player tournament in Mexico City from 12 to 30 September 2007. Viswanathan Anand won with an undefeated score of 9 out of 14, a full point ahead of Vladimir Kramnik and Boris Gelfand. It was his first undisputed world championship title, making him the 15th undisputed world champion. Anand's success helped make Chennai a major centre of chess in India.
