Brahmavadin, a journal of Vedanta, was launched by Alasinga Perumal and fellow Madras followers of Swami Vivekananda.

Alasinga Perumal, a teacher in Madras, had collected money to send Swami Vivekananda to the Parliament of the World's Religions held in Chicago in 1893. Moved by Vivekananda's example, he and other disciples founded Brahmavadin to cover Hindu religion and the philosophy of Vedanta. The Brahmavadin Press brought out the opening issue on 14 September 1895. The publication was a sign of how Vivekananda's following in Madras was expanding.
