Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme launched

· Madurai

Free breakfast for children in government primary schools began in Madurai and was later extended to all government primary schools.

Chief Minister M. K. Stalin launched the breakfast scheme for students of Classes 1 to 5 in government schools at the Aadhimoolam Corporation Primary School in Madurai on 15 September 2022. The first phase covered about 1,500 schools. It was extended to over 30,000 schools in August 2023 and later to government-aided schools. It built on Tamil Nadu's long tradition of school meals going back to the noon meal schemes of K. Kamaraj and M. G. Ramachandran.
