Pudhumai Penn scheme for college girls

· Chennai

The state began paying Rs. 1,000 a month to girls from government schools who go on to higher education.

The Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Higher Education Assurance Scheme, known as Pudhumai Penn, was launched in Chennai on 5 September 2022 by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Girls who studied from Class 6 to 12 in government schools receive Rs. 1,000 a month while pursuing higher education. It replaced an older marriage assistance scheme and was named after the social reformer Moovalur Ramamirtham. A similar scheme for boys, Tamil Pudhalvan, was introduced in 2024.
