Tyagaraja, the most celebrated composer of the Carnatic Trinity, died at Thiruvaiyaru on the banks of the Kaveri.

Tyagaraja was a composer of Carnatic music who spent most of his life at Thiruvaiyaru in Thanjavur district. His devotional kritis, mostly in Telugu and addressed to Rama, became central to the Carnatic repertoire. He died on 6 January 1847, a day after taking sanyasa, and was interred on the banks of the Kaveri at Thiruvaiyaru. The annual Tyagaraja Aradhana music festival is held there in his memory.
