Murder of Dalit engineering student Gokulraj
Dalit engineering student V. Gokulraj was abducted from a temple in Tiruchengode and murdered, in a case treated as an honour killing.
Gokulraj, a Dalit engineering student, was abducted on 23 June 2015 from the Arthanareeswarar temple in Tiruchengode, where he had gone with a friend. His headless body was later found on the railway tracks at Pallipalayam in Namakkal district. Yuvaraj and seven others were charged with the killing as an honour killing linked to an inter-caste relationship. They were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment, and the Madras High Court upheld the life sentences. The case became one of the most prominent examples of caste-related honour killings in Tamil Nadu.
