Hindu Munnani founded in Tamil Nadu

· Chennai

The Hindu Munnani, a Hindutva organisation set up with RSS backing, was founded in Tamil Nadu by Ramagopalan.

The Hindu Munnani was founded in 1980 by Ramagopalan, a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, and served as a platform for the Sangh Parivar in Tamil Nadu. It promoted a Hindu identity as a means of political mobilisation. In the 1990s it became known for organising large Vinayaka Chathurthi processions in major cities of the state. A faction broke away in 1993 and formed the Hindu Makkal Katchi.
