Innuyir Kaappom: free emergency care for accident victims

The state began paying for the first 48 hours of emergency treatment of all road accident victims in Tamil Nadu, including in private hospitals.
On 18 December 2021 Chief Minister M. K. Stalin launched 'Innuyir Kaappom - Nammai Kaakkum 48' at Melmaruvathur in Chengalpattu district. Under the scheme the state government bears the cost of emergency care for road accident victims for the first 48 hours, whether or not they are covered by the state health insurance scheme and even if they are from other states or countries. Treatment covers 81 packages up to Rs. 1 lakh per person in over 600 linked government and private hospitals. The aim was to reduce deaths from road accidents.
