Abraham Pandithar published Karunamirdha Sagaram, a large study of the history and theory of Tamil music.

Abraham Pandithar, a Siddha physician and musicologist from Tirunelveli district who settled in Thanjavur, researched the origins of Tamil music. He set up the Sangeetha Vidhyalaya Mahajana Sangam and organised six music conferences between 1912 and 1914. In 1917 he published Karunamirdha Sagaram, a 1,346-page work arguing for the antiquity and distinct system of Tamil music. It remains a key text in Tamil musicology and influenced the later Tamil Isai movement.
