· Srivilliputhur

The Srivilliputhur and Megamalai forests were notified as India's 51st tiger reserve and Tamil Nadu's fifth.

On 8 February 2021 the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change notified a new tiger reserve combining the Srivilliputhur Grizzled Squirrel Wildlife Sanctuary and the Megamalai Wildlife Sanctuary. It became India's 51st tiger reserve and the fifth in Tamil Nadu, after approval by the National Tiger Conservation Authority. The state government formally created the reserve in April 2021. The forests form the catchment of the Vaigai river, and protection was expected to help its flow.
