Chief Minister Karunanidhi moved a resolution in the Assembly demanding state autonomy, based on the Rajamannar Committee's recommendations.

On 16 April 1974 Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi moved a resolution in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly calling for greater autonomy for the states. The resolution urged the Union government to accept the state's views and the recommendations of the Rajamannar Committee on Centre-State relations, and to amend the Constitution accordingly. It drew heavily on the writings of C. N. Annadurai, and was adopted after a debate lasting several days. It has been cited in later debates on federalism.
