Sundaram Clayton founded by the TVS group

· Hosur

Formed with the UK firm Clayton Dewandre to build brakes and vehicle components, Sundaram Clayton laid the groundwork for TVS Motor.

In 1962 the TVS group of Madurai and Madras founded Sundaram Clayton jointly with Clayton Dewandre Holdings, a United Kingdom company. Its products included brakes, exhausts, compressors and other parts for automobiles. A moped plant was opened at Hosur in 1976, and the TVS 50 came out of it in 1980. From this business grew TVS Motor Company.
