Forest brigand Veerappan abducted Kannada film star Rajkumar from Gajanur in Erode district and held him for 108 days.

On 30 July 2000 Veerappan and his gang abducted Kannada actor Rajkumar, his son-in-law and two others from Rajkumar's house at Gajanur, in Erode district near the Tamil Nadu-Karnataka border. Veerappan demanded the release of his associates held in prison and raised other demands. The governments of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka negotiated through emissaries, including journalist R. R. Gopal, amid fears of unrest between the two states. Rajkumar was released unharmed on 15 November 2000 after 108 days in captivity.
