The Cauvery tribunal issued its final award allocating river water among Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry.

The Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, set up in 1990, delivered its final award on 5 February 2007. It allocated 419 thousand million cubic feet of water to Tamil Nadu, the largest share, with Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry receiving the rest. Both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka challenged the award in the Supreme Court. It was notified in 2013, and the Supreme Court modified it in 2018.
