Amma Cement sold at half the market price

· Tiruchirappalli

The state began selling low-priced 'Amma' cement at Rs. 190 a bag through Civil Supplies Corporation godowns, starting in Tiruchi.

In January 2015 the Tamil Nadu government launched sales of 'Amma Cement' at Rs. 190 for a 50 kg bag, roughly half the open market retail price of about Rs. 375. Sales began in Tiruchi through five godowns of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation. The plan was to roll it out in stages to 470 outlets across the state. The government said the aim was to protect people from rising cement prices.
