Amma Salt launched

· Chennai

The Tamil Nadu Salt Corporation began selling low-priced iodised and fortified salt under the 'Amma' brand.

In June 2014 Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa launched 'Amma Salt', produced by the Tamil Nadu Salt Corporation for the benefit of weaker sections. Three varieties went on open market sale: double fortified salt at Rs. 14 a kg, refined free-flow iodised salt at Rs. 10 and low-sodium salt at Rs. 21. These prices were below those of private brands. It followed the Amma canteens and Amma drinking water.
