Jayalalithaa opened the first ten 'Amma' pharmacies to sell quality medicines at fair prices.

In June 2014 Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa launched 'Amma Pharmacy', opening ten pharmacies by video conference in Chennai, Erode, Salem, Cuddalore, Madurai, Sivaganga and Virudhunagar. The shops, set up at a cost of Rs. 1 crore, were meant to sell quality medicines at fair prices. The initiative came soon after the launch of Amma Salt and followed the Amma canteens and Amma drinking water.
