Palaniswami inaugurated 630 'Amma mini clinics' for basic health checks, part of a plan for 2,000 clinics across the state.

In December 2020 Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami inaugurated the Amma mini clinics in Chennai, opening 630 clinics on the first day. The government planned 2,000 such clinics statewide, 200 of them in Chennai, each with a doctor, a nurse and an assistant. They offered basic checks such as temperature, blood oxygen, blood pressure, haemoglobin and blood sugar in two shifts a day. The launch came during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the state had around 1,851 primary health centres.
