During the Rajkot Test against England, Chennai off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin reached 500 Test wickets, only the second Indian to do so.

Born in Madras in 1986, Ravichandran Ashwin played for Tamil Nadu and the Chennai Super Kings, performances that earned him a first India call-up in 2010. His 500th Test wicket came on 16 February 2024, in the third Test against England at Rajkot. That made him the ninth bowler in all and the second from India to get there. On 18 December 2024 he announced that he was retiring from international cricket.
