Joint Action Committee on fair delimitation meets in Chennai

· Chennai

Chief Ministers and leaders from several states met in Chennai at Stalin's call to oppose delimitation based only on population.

Concerned that a delimitation of Lok Sabha constituencies based on the next census would reduce the share of seats of states that had controlled population growth, Tamil Nadu held an all-party meeting on 5 March 2025. M. K. Stalin then invited leaders of other states to a Joint Action Committee. Its first meeting in Chennai on 22 March 2025 was attended by the Chief Ministers of Kerala, Telangana and Punjab, Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister and other party leaders. The meeting demanded that the freeze on the number of seats based on the 1971 census be extended and that any delimitation be fair and consultative.
