DMK-led alliance wins all 39 Lok Sabha seats

· Chennai

The DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance with the Congress and Left won every Lok Sabha seat in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry; the AIADMK-BJP alliance won none.

Before the 2004 general election the DMK, PMK and MDMK left the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance and formed the Democratic Progressive Alliance with the Congress and the Left parties. Polling in Tamil Nadu was held on 10 May 2004 and votes were counted on 13 May. The alliance won all 39 seats in the state and the single Puducherry seat, with about 57 percent of the vote. The AIADMK-BJP alliance failed to win a seat. The result helped the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance form the Union government, in which DMK leaders became ministers.
