The Kathipara cloverleaf interchange near Guindy, one of the largest in South Asia at the time, was fully opened to traffic.

The Kathipara Junction grade separator was built at the meeting point of the Inner Ring Road, Anna Salai, GST Road and Mount-Poonamallee Road. It cost about Rs 486 crore and had an initial deadline of March 2007. The main span linking the Inner Ring Road and GST Road opened on 9 April 2008, and the entire structure was opened to the public on 26 October 2008. It eased congestion at one of Chennai's busiest junctions near the airport road.
