Kodanad estate robbery and murder

· Nilgiris district

A watchman was killed during a break-in at the Kodanad tea estate in the Nilgiris, a retreat used by J. Jayalalithaa.

On 24 April 2017 a gang broke into the Kodanad estate, a tea estate in the Nilgiris district that had been used as a retreat by the late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. A security guard was killed during the incident. The case drew political attention because of the estate's association with Jayalalithaa and V. K. Sasikala, who had been imprisoned in February 2017. Investigations and court proceedings in the case continued for years and became a recurring political issue in the state.
