A 1970 Government Order exempted Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students up to the Pre-University Course from paying tuition fees.
Through a Government Order in 1970, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students up to the Pre-University Course were exempted from paying tuition fees. In 1972 another order provided interest-free loans to SC and ST students pursuing professional courses. The government also gave attendance prizes, special coaching for students who failed Classes IX and X, and more training centres for public service examinations. These measures were part of the Karunanidhi government's education incentives for Dalit and Adivasi students.
