On his birthday, Chief Minister Karunanidhi launched a beggar rehabilitation scheme and collected funds for it himself.

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi launched a beggar rehabilitation scheme on his 48th birthday, 3 June 1971. He collected donations for the scheme from shopkeepers near his residence.
