· Perambur
Registered in 1876, Binny and Co.'s Buckingham Mill went into operation in 1878, and the Carnatic Mills came three years later in 1881.
The Buckingham Mills were established by Binny and Co., among the biggest private firms in Madras, on land between Perambur, Vepery and Basin Bridge. Registration of the company took place on 17 August 1876, and work started in January 1878. On 30 June 1881 the Carnatic Mills were founded, and in 1920 the two concerns were amalgamated. In 1918 the mills saw the birth of the Madras Labour Union, one of the earliest trade unions in India.
