Very heavy rain from Cyclone Michaung flooded large parts of Chennai and neighbouring districts.

Cyclone Michaung moved along the coast close to Chennai on 3 and 4 December 2023 before landfall in Andhra Pradesh. Chennai and the districts of Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu received extremely heavy rainfall, and many areas were waterlogged for days. Power and water supply were disrupted and dozens of deaths were reported in Tamil Nadu. An oil spill in Ennore during the floods also affected local fishing communities.
