Justice Party becomes Dravidar Kazhagam at Salem
· Salem

Meeting at Salem, the Justice Party, now led by Periyar, took the name Dravidar Kazhagam and gave up contesting elections.
On 27 August 1944 the Justice Party gathered at Salem for its sixteenth annual confederation, and supporters of E. V. Ramasamy emerged in control. Under a resolution linked to C. N. Annadurai, the organisation adopted the name Dravidar Kazhagam. Its members were called on to renounce British honours like Rao Bahadur and Diwan Bahadur, stop using caste suffixes and quit nominated offices. The renamed body also turned away from electoral contests and made a separate Dravida Nadu its central demand. A smaller group kept the Justice Party name alive.
