Foxconn opens plant in Nokia SEZ at Sriperumbudur

· Sriperumbudur

Foxconn India opened a factory inside the Nokia Special Economic Zone at Sriperumbudur to supply Nokia, anchoring an electronics cluster near Chennai.

In 2006 Foxconn India opened a factory at Sriperumbudur, about 50 kilometres from Chennai, mainly to supply parts for Nokia India. The plant was located inside the Nokia Special Economic Zone, where Nokia ran its handset factory. The zone made Sriperumbudur a centre of electronics manufacturing alongside the automobile plants of the Chennai region. Between 2010 and 2013 rival trade unions contested the right to represent Foxconn's workers, and Nokia suspended production at its own plant in 2014.
