Nokia suspended handset production at its Sriperumbudur factory near Chennai after Microsoft ended its manufacturing agreement.

Nokia's handset factory at Sriperumbudur had been a centrepiece of the electronics manufacturing cluster near Chennai. In September 2013 Nokia agreed to sell its devices business to Microsoft, but the Chennai factory remained with Nokia and made phones for Microsoft under a services agreement. Microsoft terminated that agreement with effect from 1 November 2014, and Nokia suspended handset production at the facility from that date. The closure affected thousands of workers and suppliers in the Sriperumbudur industrial belt; the plant was later acquired by Salcomp.
