About 1,500 workers at Samsung's Sriperumbudur plant struck for over a month, seeking recognition of their CITU-backed union.

From 8 September to October 2024 about 1,500 production workers at the Samsung Electronics plant at Sriperumbudur near Chennai went on an indefinite strike. They belonged to a newly formed union backed by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions and sought union recognition and collective bargaining rights. Over 100 workers were briefly detained for an unpermitted protest march. The Samsung India Workers Union was formally recognised under the Trade Unions Act in January 2026.
