Ford ends car manufacturing in India
· Chennai

Ford announced it would stop manufacturing in India, leading to the closure of its car plant near Chennai.
Ford India, headquartered in Chennai, had operated a car and engine plant near Chennai since the late 1990s and a second plant at Sanand in Gujarat. On 9 September 2021 Ford announced its exit from manufacturing in India, citing losses, competition and weak demand. The decision led to the closure of the Chennai plant and affected thousands of workers and suppliers in the automobile cluster around the city. The Sanand plant was later sold to Tata Motors, while Ford retained the Chennai plant and considered its future use.
