Governor R. N. Ravi left the Assembly after it resolved to record only the government-prepared address, which he had departed from.

In his customary address to the Assembly on 9 January 2023, Governor R. N. Ravi omitted references, including to secularism, self-respect, B. R. Ambedkar and Dravidian leaders, from the speech prepared by the state government. Chief Minister M. K. Stalin moved a resolution to record only the prepared text, which the Assembly passed. The Governor walked out during the Chief Minister's speech on the resolution. The episode was part of a prolonged conflict between the Governor and the DMK government, which also involved delayed assent to bills and, in 2024, a further refusal to read the prepared address.
