Madras University Act

· University of Madras

A fresh Madras University Act enlarged the University of Madras's governing bodies and gave them a more representative character.

Passed under the Justice Party ministry, the Madras University Act of 1923 enlarged the administrative body of the University of Madras and broadened its representation. The changes took place against a background of competition between the party's Tamil and Telugu members, each seeking universities of their own. Andhra University came next in 1926, and Annamalai University in 1929.
