Marakkanam caste violence

· Marakkanam

At Marakkanam, PMK cadres heading to a Vanniyar youth festival clashed with Dalit villagers, setting off violence in the northern districts.

PMK members on their way to a Vanniyar Sangam youth festival in Mamallapuram fought with Dalit villagers at Marakkanam, Villupuram district, on 25 April 2013. In the violence, huts in a Dalit colony were set on fire, buses were damaged and two PMK members lost their lives. The detention of PMK founder S. Ramadoss sparked protests that brought bus services to a halt in several northern districts. Six VCK members were found guilty in 2016 of murdering one of the PMK members.
