Mettur Dam completed

The Mettur Dam across the Cauvery was completed, creating the Stanley Reservoir and expanding irrigation in the delta.
Construction of the Mettur Dam across the Cauvery river in Salem district began in 1925 and was completed in 1934. The dam created the Stanley Reservoir, one of the largest in India at the time. It regulated water supply to the Cauvery delta, supporting irrigation in Thanjavur and neighbouring districts. It also later supported hydroelectric power generation and became central to the Cauvery water dispute with Mysore and later Karnataka.
