Sarkaria Commission of Inquiry into the DMK government
· Chennai
A one-man commission under Justice R. S. Sarkaria was appointed to inquire into corruption charges against the dismissed DMK government.
In February 1976, shortly after the dismissal of the Karunanidhi government, the Union government set up a one-man commission of inquiry under Supreme Court judge Ranjit Singh Sarkaria. It was to examine allegations of corruption against the former DMK ministry, many of which had been raised by M. G. Ramachandran. The DMK described the inquiry as politically motivated. This commission is distinct from the later Sarkaria Commission on Centre-State relations set up in 1983.
