A memorial to Swami Vivekananda was completed on a rock off the coast of Kanyakumari after a nationwide fundraising campaign.

The Vivekananda Rock Memorial, built on a rocky islet off Kanyakumari, was completed on 2 September 1970. It commemorates Swami Vivekananda, who is said to have meditated on the rock in 1892. The memorial was organised by Eknath Ranade through a campaign that raised funds from across India. It became one of the most visited monuments in Tamil Nadu.
