Agricultural Labourer Fair Wages Act

Under a 1969 law, Cauvery delta farm labourers had to be paid fair wages, and landowners who exploited them faced penalties.
Passed by the Karunanidhi government, the Tamil Nadu Agricultural Labourer Fair Wages Act, 1969, sought to make sure farm workers in the Cauvery delta were paid fair wages. Landowners found exploiting labourers were liable to penalties. A separate Act that year made the recording of tenancy rights in revenue records compulsory for the first time. Together with the 1970 cut in the land ceiling, these laws made up a package of agrarian measures.
