T. T. V. Dhinakaran founds the AMMK

· Melur

Expelled AIADMK leader T. T. V. Dhinakaran launched the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam at Melur as a breakaway party.

After the merger of the AIADMK factions led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami and O. Panneerselvam in 2017, T. T. V. Dhinakaran, nephew of V. K. Sasikala, was expelled from the party. Dhinakaran had won the R. K. Nagar by-election in December 2017 as an independent. On 15 March 2018 he founded the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) at Melur near Madurai as a breakaway faction of the AIADMK. The party contested later elections and split the AIADMK vote in several constituencies.
