Kamal Haasan founds Makkal Needhi Maiam

Actor Kamal Haasan launched the Makkal Needhi Maiam party at a public meeting in Madurai.

Film actor Kamal Haasan launched the Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) in Madurai on 21 February 2018. The party said it would offer a centrist alternative to the Dravidian parties and focus on corruption and governance. It contested the 2019 Lok Sabha and 2021 Assembly elections without winning seats. It later allied with the DMK, and Kamal Haasan entered the Rajya Sabha.
