Anna Centenary Library opens in Kotturpuram

A large public library named after C. N. Annadurai opened in Chennai on his birth anniversary.

The Anna Centenary Library in Kotturpuram, Chennai, was established on 15 September 2010, the birth anniversary of C. N. Annadurai. The nine-floor library was built on 8 acres and in July 2010 became the first library building in Asia to receive the LEED NC Gold green building rating. After the AIADMK came to power in 2011, Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa announced a plan to convert the building into a paediatric super-speciality hospital. The proposal was challenged in court, and the building continued to function as a library.
