A new legislature and secretariat building on Anna Salai was opened, but the next government moved back to Fort St. George and turned it into a hospital.

The DMK government built a new Legislative Assembly and Secretariat complex at the Omandurar Government Estate on Anna Salai, Chennai. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inaugurated it in March 2010, and the Assembly met there until 2011. After the AIADMK returned to power in 2011, the Assembly moved back to Fort St. George and the building was converted into a multi-speciality government hospital. The change became a long-running point of dispute between the two parties.
