Ennore oil spill after tanker collision

· Ennore

Two tankers collided off Kamarajar Port in Ennore, and the resulting oil spill spread along the north Chennai coast.

On 28 January 2017 the outbound empty tanker BW Maple collided with the inbound loaded tanker Dawn Kanchipuram off Kamarajar Port at Ennore. The port initially said there was no major environmental damage, but oil spread along the Chennai coastline over the following days. The Thiruvallur district collector confirmed the spill on 31 January, and the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board and Fisheries Department were deployed. The Chennai Corporation and other agencies worked to remove the oil from the shore.
