Samacheer Kalvi: uniform school education

· Chennai

Tamil Nadu introduced a common syllabus across state, matriculation and other school boards; the Supreme Court upheld it in 2011.

The Uniform System of School Education, known as Samacheer Kalvi, replaced the separate state board, matriculation, oriental and Anglo-Indian streams with one common syllabus. It was introduced by the DMK government in 2010 for the early classes. The AIADMK government that took office in 2011 tried to defer it, which led to litigation. In August 2011 the Supreme Court upheld the Madras High Court's direction to implement it, and it was extended to all classes.
