Golden Rock railway workshop opens at Tiruchirappalli
· Ponmalai

The South Indian Railway moved its central workshop from Nagapattinam to Golden Rock in Tiruchirappalli.
The South Indian Railway had set up its central locomotive workshop at Nagapattinam in 1897. Because Trichinopoly had a better location, the company decided to move it, and the foundation stone was laid on 20 December 1926. The Golden Rock (Ponmalai) workshop was completed in 1928. It later overhauled diesel and electric locomotives and built wagons, and became one of the largest employers in Tiruchirappalli.
